A giant needs a small friend – A global company needs the understanding of a local expert

In 2015, Nordic Transport Group, a relatively new but rapidly growing international logistics company, bought a couple of companies from Finland. During this time, Esa Rusanen came up with the idea, that NTG could buy yet another Finnish company, Polar Logistics.

So, he convinced both parties too meet and brought them to the same negotiation table. As a result, a deal was made. Now, NTG needed an auditor for its businesses in the new country. Esa seemed like an appropriate candidate for the job.

“We got a very good impression of Esa. We were very confident with his work and his way of approaching things. No other considerations were made”, the Group CEO of road and logistics of NTG, Jesper Petersen says.

That is how Esa started as an auditor for NTG. Despite the distance and language barriers, co-operation has gone smoothly.

“Esa is a very service oriented and very flexible person. He understands our business and our situation. He is an appreciated colleague and partner”, Jesper describes Esa.

Esa has been helping NTG with taxation as well as in financial and legal issues – themes which require the knowledge of local laws, norms and habits. “Esa is very open minded and makes sure he understands his clients. He is very good at finding solutions for problems”, Jesper says.

NTG was founded in 2011. In seven years, they have expanded to twenty different countries. This year there will be five to six countries more. International business is a little bit of a challenge when considering auditing. In one hand, one needs an auditing company that has services in all these countries. But in the other hand, one needs trustworthy partners with strong understanding of the local context.

For this reason, NTG made a new agreement with and international auditing company but they are still using the consultancy services from Esa and NeonAudit. Especially in the specific project issues in Finland.

“In local issues some big companies might be too big”, Jesper explains, “We appreciate the fact that we have contacts, who can assist and consult us in the new projects locally. How to do things. A guide, in whom we can see a lot of similarities to our own way of thinking.”
